Another Strawberry Festival in South Berwick, Maine has come and gone! This was my fourth year doing portraits at it!
I've had a busy summer so far, with several graduation parties, a corporate picnic, and two festivals so far! On Friday, The 4th of July, I will be doing Silhouettes at Strawbery Banke Historic Community in Portsmouth, NH from 10 am to 5 pm! On Saturday, July 5th I'll be performing  in Portsmouth, NH with Salt River at Summer in the Streets, a concert series sponsored by Pro Portsmouth!

Is My Granddaughter Pretty or What?

I did a caricature of my oldest granddaughter Phaedra!
Last Saturday, June 21st, was the Somersworth Children's Festival! It was held this year at the High School in Somersworth because of construction going on downtown.

I set up to do caricatures, silhouettes and pencil portraits! I did mostly caricatures and a few pencil portraits, but no silhouettes at all this time! It was a beautiful day and I shared the tent with my daughter Anisa who did chair massage! Her daughter Phaedra (above) was with us all day and helped out whenever we asked her to do something for us, but she also got to enjoy the fun at the festival!

I'll be doing Caricatures at a private party in Westbrook, ME on Wed. and on Sat. June 28th I'll be at the Strawberry Festival, in South Berwick, ME again. This will be my fifth year doing Strawberry Festival I think! And it's South Berwick's 200th Anniversary!

This boy sat still enough and didn't mind that I didn't put his face painting in the picture. Actually I forgot!

Great fun was had by all!

Babysitter Blues-Halfway there! Kickstarter musings!

My kickstarter project is halfway through with 14 days to go, and we've reached almost half of the desired goal of $1000! I'm so amazed that we've come this far.

Who would have thought that I, a 61 year old, and a sort of late bloomer in the field of children's books, as well as computer marketing would even attempt to try something like this!!! Two years ago I could hardly handle facebook!

And though I always aspired to writing and illustrating children's picture books, I never dreamed I would ever write any kind of a novel! So happy that this story for middle school readers has already been published as an ebook by One Voice Press! And with the kickstarter project underway we will hopefully be able to produce the book in print soon!

Summary of Babysitter Blues:

Fourteen-year-old Evan feels like there's no tomorrow. He's trapped in an unending cycle of babysitting his much younger half-siblings while his mom juggles work and classes. His has little memory of his father, who died when he was young, and his mother has just divorced the stepfather to whom he had grown close. A gang of bullies at his school delights in tormenting him. But a sympathetic English teacher and a new friend, Nava, help him to see that sometimes what seems to be a hopeless situation really isn't.

In working out what the rewards might be we decided to utilize the drawings I did for the book as titles for the rewards! Here are the illustrations!
"Babysitter Blues Cover"

"Evan's Dilema"

"Wait For It"
"Corey"s Meltdown"

"Dani plays 'Babysitter Blues'"
"Dani's Refusal"
"Nava's Gift"
"Evan and His Mom"
