A new cheering child for this week! Yeehaw! I think I spelled it wrong on his shirt! Oh well! Here is my grandaughter Phaedra's new submission to Illustration Friday. The theme this week is "Surveilliance"! We talked about how surveilliance has several different meanings and looked at some samples on the website for a bit and then she drew this in about five minutes! My submission took a lot longer to figure out! Last weekend I had so much fun doing Caricatures and Portraits of children at my friend's neighborhood yard sale in Portsmouth, and am excited about doing Silhouettes and more at Strawberry Festival in South Berwick this coming Saturday, June 29th! I love it when people come back for a silhouette year after year!! And this year I will be offering Caricatures and Pencil Portraits along with Silhouettes for the first time at Strawberry Festival! I have a new website please check it out!  www.leonahosack.com

My new cheering child of the week! The Theme at Illustration Friday this week is "Worn". My  7 year old granddaughter and I talked about the different meanings of the word worn, and here's what we came up with! On Sunday I did Caricaturing at a graduation party for five hours at a lake in New Hampshire! It rained a little but luckily I was under a tent and it didn't rain much. They had some great mats and we were able to mat each Caricature right away!  The dog is not in the photo obviously!  The graduate for which the party was thrown is in these pictures three different times! Can you spot her?

A new Cheering Child to  cheer us on this week! Even though the week is almost over! Thumbs up! "Be Happy, be Happy, be full of Joy!..." "The afflictions which come to humanity sometimes tend to centre the consciousness upon the limitaions, and this is a veritable prison. Release comes by making of the will a Door through which the confirmations of the Spirit come.".... 'Abdu'l-Baha My latest submission to Illustration Friday! The theme this week is Children! I did this  a few years ago and submitted it to Down East Books in Maine along with a picture book idea for a story based on a song I wrote called "Livin' On The Coast of Maine". Alas, they weren't interested in it at the time, but they sent me a very encouraging rejection letter. My 7 year old grandaughter Phaedra found out I was submitting art work to Illustration Friday and she wanted to do it too. This is her submission for last week when the theme was Sweet! Th

Time for a new Cheering Child for the week! "Keep on keeping on!" I keep telling myself! And here are some silhouettes that I cut last year at different festivals in the Maine/New Hampshire seacoast area.  Beards are really fun and challenging to do! Glasses are fun too! The two silhouettes below are ones I cut yesterday. These two are twins, believe it or not! They wore their hair differently. I always have fun with hair, especially long hair! The top three were cut on the spot from live subjects, the twins were cut from photos.

My new illustration for Illustration Friday,  an illustration challenge at www.illustrationfriday.com. This week's theme is Sweet! This kid looks so happy! He loves this super-sized ice cream cone! Loving something like an ice cream, a new toy, a fun experience, or family and friends is easy for a child and it's easy of course for a child to express, but how do you help a child through other emotions? Every emotion is part of who we are. But it's so easy to get stuck in an emotion and feel like it's never going to end! I pulled these character sketches showing different emotions, out of one of my old portfolios. Here's a different girl with some of the same emotions. After working with young children for well over twenty years, raising my own three children and now, spending a lot of time with my two wonderful grand girls, I've learned that one of the best ways that works for me in helping a child move through a negative emotion is to suppor
